President Traian Basescu threatens to dissolve the Romanian Parliament, if it rejects two PM proposals. According to the Constitution, such a decision cannot be taken during a period of 6 months before the presidential elections.
Accordingly, Mr Basescu said that, if necessary, he could do it on 7th December, 2009, which is the first day after the second round of the voting process. That is, if he is reelected, of course.
The President has designed yesterday an economist with no leading experience to form the new Government. But there is a problem: The new appointed Prime Minister Lucian Croitoru and his team need the vote of the parliamentary majority, which still insists that Sibiu's Mayor, Klaus Johannis, should be the chief of the Government.
Under these circumstances, Traian Basescu has a second choice for the position. He affirmed that if Croitoru cabinet is rejected, he will designate a Prime Minister from the party with the largest number of parliament members. Mr Basescu is referring indirectly to PDL, his supporting party.
