The federally-owned Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd. has drawn a contract to assessing the viability of building two new reactors in Romania.

Hugh MacDiarmid, CEO with AECL, said the pre-engineering work is 'an important step forward' to adding two more Candus to the two that currently operate at Romania's nuclear plant in Cernavoda.

Candu 6 is a small reactor of 720 MW power, and AECL tryes to sell a new version of it to Romania and Argentina.

The current Cernavoda plant produces 20% of Romania's electric energy.
