Casa Poporului
Romanian dictator's palace numbers over 1000 rooms
Bucharest city's 'Casa Poporului' (People's House), the world's second largest building, could be turned into a shopping mall under new proposals.

Romanian MP and businessman Silviu Prigoana said he would draft a law to convert 'Casa Poporului' -- now Romania's Parliament building -- into one of Europe's biggest shopping and entertainment sites.

The liberal-democrat MP said that the Parliament occupies only 30% of the massive palace, which was built during the time of ancient communist dictator Nicolae Ceausescu.

Mr Prigoana believes that the legislative body should be relocated into a different building, and People's House should become the largest exhibition and fair centre on the planet.

Other politicians have dismissed the idea as a 'joke'.
