Several piranha fishes might live in the 'Chios' lake, located in Cluj city centre, endangering other species. Two piranhas have been fished out from the lake last year, it has been revealed on Monday, 15th February, 2010.
Professor Ioan Bud of Cluj's Veterinary Medicine University (USAMV) quoted by City News, said he was called last year by a local fisherman who claimed he had found two piranha fishes in the little lake, who serves for entertainment activities.
'I asked for a meeting, and I realised that the man was right: the two fishes were indeed piranhas,' mr Bud recalled.
He believes that the two piranhas, a very voracious carnivorous species, might have been thrown into the lake by someone who no longer wanted them in their home aquarium.
Unfortunately, such things occur very often in Romania, and piranhas are very dangerous for all other species of fish, because they can adapt easily to cold rivers, Ioan Bud said
